the day was long and hot, like so many summer days before it, and it burned on into the night until the last streaks of orange and pink electricity faded across the sky.
the twilight was an ember, still smoldering from the expired fire of the day. notes of citronella and hot asphalt swirled in the air, a perfumed veil draped over the early evening.
summer seeped out of the pores of the earth-- enveloping the landscape, packaging it tenderly.
